Introducing The Digital Community
An online space for the burned out, deconstructing, and tired-of-the-status quo folks ready to reimagine faith together
Let’s just get this out of the way right off the top—“above the fold” as the old-timey newspaper editors would say—the best way to join The Digital Community is clicking the button below. That one. Right there👇
Okay, now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, an introduction: If you’re getting this email, it means you’re already in The Digital Community (hey!) or you were kind enough to provide feedback a few months ago about what an online community for people struggling with their faith, with the church, with the idea of God in general, could look like.
All that feedback brought us to this: A group of folks who are ready to connect with others on their journey of deconstruction, reconstruction, and everything in between. A group of folks who feel hopeless but refuse to give up hope. Who are tired of the status quo and ready to imagine something different than what we’ve been offered by churches and influencers and all those people who seem to have so much certainty (but so little empathy for those of us who don’t.)
In our first podcast episode, Tyler Burns talked about how losing our faith communities leaves us feeling “liberated but lonely.”
The Digital Community is here to make that loneliness a little less acute.
So come on by and check things out. Chat, post, or just lurk around a bit—we’re here for you no matter your comfort level or step on the journey. We have groups, events, and all kinds of ways to connect, learn, and even just relax as we reimagine faith. Together.
One of the ways we’re learning together at The Digital Community is through our podcast which is very creatively titled: The Digital Community Podcast.
Our first season runs from now until Thanksgiving and we have awesome guests—like Tyler Burns, Peace Amadi, Melissa Florer-Bixler—lined up and ready to go.
Like everyone else in the universe, The Digital Community is on Instagram so head over there and give us a follow! We’re also on YouTube where you can rewatch all of our past Happy Hour conversations. Unlike the rest of the world we do not have a Facebook. For one because we hate it, and for two because we’re, like, our own social network.
One of the things you can expect from this newsletter going forward is a blend of links to fun and insightful stuff from around the interwebs and updates on what’s happening inside The Digital Community. October is a full month for us and here’s some of what we have going on:
Discussion group for The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill Podcast
(October 13th and 20th - 8:30 PM central)Group for parents
(October 12th, 19th, and 26th - 8:30 PM central)Happy Hours
(October 14th - 8:30 PM central, October 21st - 8 PM central)Book Club: How to Have an Enemy by Melissa Florer-Bixler

All these events are held via zoom and the links are available in the “Events” tab inside The Digital Community.
This newsletter will be coming at you at least once (maybe twice) a month and you can absolutely hang out on this list without joining The Digital Community if you are interested in deconstruction-y topics but aren’t quite sure about something so organized right now. No matter what level of interaction, we’re glad you’re here, and we hope to make your faith journey a little less lonely.
